Back when I was a teenager we used to hear rumors about "cartoon acid" - LSD with the power to turn your entire experience into a cartoon.  This got me thinking, "What would happen if a cartoon character took cartoon acid?".  In this piece, Spongebob (who is naturally curious) has ingested a large dose and has been having a very challenging trip.  He's started to realize that his entire existence is either a cartoon or a video game. Now, in a search for clues, he's using virtual reality to enter into his own Game Boy Color cartridge.
